Bubba Gump Shrimp Pier 39, #211 San Francisco, CA (415) 781-GUMP (4867) Patron allergic to milk, egg, peanut & tree nuts. It took the manager a few trips back and forth to the kitchen to be certain what he could offer Bud for dinner. His persistence paid off and we had a wonderful meal with plenty of choices. |
Castagnola's 286 Jefferson St. San Francisco, CA 94133 (415) 776-5015 Patron allergic to milk, egg, peanut, & tree nuts. We ate here twice. The first meal was seamless, mainly due to our experienced waiter. The second visit had a rough start, but ended well. There was a language barrier between us and the waiter, so he kept running back and forth to the kitchen as we inquired about menu items. On approximately the 4th trip to the kitchen he never returned. Just when we thought we were abandoned, an experienced waiter came to our table and was able to serve us very quickly. |
Marriott Fisherman's Wharf 1250 Columbus Ave. San Francisco, CA 94133 (415) 775-7555 Patron allergic to milk, egg, peanut & tree nuts. This place was great. Each room had a refrigerator and we requested a microwave when we made the reservation. There was a Safeway grocery store within walking distance so we purchased some Formula 409 to clean the micro and fridge before we used them. (Three years earlier, the Food Allergy Network suggested Formula 409 and Lysol wipes are effective to remove peanut residue.) . |
Burger King San Francisco, CA Burger King Mobile (use zip code 94133 for S.F.) Bud has been able to eat at B.K. many times in different parts of the United States, (yet for some reason the B.K. in Sturbridge, MA was not able to prepare his food properly). He ate at two different Burger Kings in S.F. successfully. |
Hard Rock Cafe Pier 39, #256 San Francisco, CA (415) 956-2013 Patron allergic to milk, egg, peanut & tree nuts. An e-mail correspondence with the corporate office suggested Bud might be able to eat at the Boston Hard Rock. While in S.F., we actually sat down and talked to the waiter and the manager about their menu, but did not end up eating there. After our usual inquisition, they said they could make him a steak and a salad, but most other items had dairy or nuts or a possibility of cross-contamination. He was too hungry for such light fare and he was uncomfortable about the way the inquisition had progressed. I always tell him to trust his intuition, so we left. |
Sushi on North Beach Katsu 745 Columbus Ave. San Francisco, CA 94133 (415) 788-8050 Patron allergic to milk, egg, peanut & tree nuts. We called ahead to see if they could serve someone with food allergies. At the restaurant, when the tray of food was served, we noticed the spiced tuna roll in the middle of the tray was filled with a white creamy substance. We asked if it was mayonnaise and sure enough it was. Apologetically, the waitress rushed the tray back to the kitchen where the entire order was redone and served. The rest of the experience went very smoothly, even the Saki sampler. |
Divvies Patron allergic to milk, egg, peanut & tree nuts. This is an online company that specializes in cookies and sweets. Before I left home I ordered some Divvies to be shipped directly to our hotel. When they noticed the shipping destination, they assumed we were traveling. So, they called me to ask about my time frame in S.F.. They wanted to deliver it exactly when we needed it! Can't beat that for service. We've used them many times at home and we definitely will use them again on the road. |
Cliff House 1090 Point Lobos Ave. San Francisco, CA 94121 (415) 395-9020 Patron allergic to milk, egg, peanut, & tree nuts. This is a big tourist attraction and is a lengthy bus ride from the Marriott Fisherman's Wharff, but it was well worth it. I was a bit nervous since we had not done our usual research before trying this new restaurant, but everything worked out extremely well. The hostess suggested the downstairs restaurant was best equipped to handle food allergies. We had a terrific dinner and the waiter was magnificent. |
Ruth's Chris Steak House 1601 Van Ness Ave. San Francisco, CA 94109 (415) 673-0557 January 2007 Prior to our trip, communication with the corporate office indicated that Bud should be able to eat here. Unfortunately, we never seemed to be near this end of town when it was time to eat. |
