Food Allergy Friendly Restaurants

When I sat down and started to read the breakfast menu I noticed a message at the bottom of the page that said “Please let us know if you have food allergies”. So, I went to the front of the restaurant and spoke with John, the manager. He told me they are prepared to handle food allergies and gluten free requests. The chefs are trained to avoid cross- contamination. When I asked about milk free, egg free bread, I learned they carry milk free, egg free wraps, Pita Bread, that can be used for sandwiches. They also provide plain baked potatoes for anyone trying to avoid food allergens. Behind the hostess station, I noticed a display of small Kellogg’s cereal boxes including, Rice Krispies, Corn Flakes and Raisin Bran. John mentioned they also run the dining room at Izaak Walton Inn in Essex, Montana and it’s staff follows the same procedures for food allergies as Eddie’s. John’s sister is the owner of Eddie’s. |

When I was perusing the dinner menu, I noticed many of the items are marked with an asterik to indicate that they are gluten free. So, as soon as I ordered, I went to talk with Brad, the manager, about food allergies. He told me their chef, Melissa, is well aware of food allergies and cross-contamination and would be happy to cook for anyone with a special dietary request. He mentioned that their mashed potatoes contain dairy so my son should call early in the afternoon to let the chef know he was planning to arrive for dinner and she would set aside some plain potato for him. He said this was easy for her since they use real potatoes. |
